This week I had a lot of time to myself. After spending so much time at home and not traveling, I’m ready to sleep, eat pasta, cake, coke and pray that the sun continues to shine. After a very hectic last week, I discovered a few useful things:

Let’s start with the basics – pillows. Sure, they’re great for pillow fights, but did you know they’re also essential for a good night’s sleep? Upgrade your pillow game from marshmallow to memory foam. It’s like sleeping on a cloud, minus the risk of falling through!

Who says you can’t look fabulous while catching those Zs? Ditch the outdated PJs and opt for sleepwear that not only screams style but also lets your body breathe. Remember, it’s not a fashion show unless your teddy bear is giving you a standing ovation!

Bedtime snack attack.

Forget about the typical warm milk – go for a midnight snack that tickles your taste buds and induces sweet dreams. Consider a slice of banana bread, a handful of almonds, or even a spoonful of peanut butter. Just be careful not to end up with crumbs in your sheets; those are the real nightmares!

Listen to mom.

Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time. I remember when I was a child, I hated going to bed, I would lie and listen to my parents watching TV without me. It turns out my mom was on the right track: keeping a regular sleep-wake schedule can improve your sleep quality in the long run!

No blue light.

Increase your exposure to bright light during the day! Natural sunlight or bright light during the day helps maintain a healthy circadian rhythm, your body’s natural clock. Reduce your exposure to blue light in the evening. Exposure to light during the day is beneficial, but exposure to light at night has the opposite effect, and the worst type of light is the blue light that your cell phone emits! So put down your phone and pick up a book instead.

Unplug and unwind! Banish all electronic devices from your bedside table at least an hour before bedtime. Turn off those notifications and let your phone take a break – it’s been working hard, too. Your dreams will thank you for the digital detox.

Lavender on the shopping list.

Keep some lavender on hand. A powerful herb with many health benefits, lavender can have a calming and sedentary effect, promoting sleep.

Blanket fort.

Upgrade your blanket fort game. Forget about building a fort solely for kids; we’re all big kids at heart! Add fairy lights, plush toys, and maybe a mini-fridge for late-night snacks. A well-built blanket fort is the ultimate sleep sanctuary.

Don’t be a slob.

Clean up your room. I don’t know about you but I can only sleep in a tidy room, make sure your bedroom is a quiet, relaxing, clean and pleasant place.
