Hello, my darlings! It’s such a lovely evening and I’m in such a good mood, I can’t wait to share another find with you – pretty illustrations by Madison Safer.
I love this set of images so much that I think Madison is definitely going to be one of my top ten favourite illustrators. Her work is so simple and evokes memories of my childhood. Looking through these pictures brings back touching nostalgic memories of my childhood books and the evenings my grandmother and I would flip through them and look at the pictures until well into the night.
Do you feel that way too?
I would be happy to be one of the creatures of the wonderful world of artist Madison Safer. Living in a hollow tree, sitting in a patchwork blanket and picking nuts and berries.
Want to know a little about the artist herself? Madison Safer is an illustrator who found happiness in the mushroom forest. Her work centres around themes of nostalgia, the comfort of home, and the quiet woods of New England. She finds inspiration in Russian folk art, paper cutouts, patchwork quilt patterns, and the warmth of a hearth after a long walk.
When Madison was a baby she could often be found in the backyard searching for hidden worlds among the flowers and bushes.
After moving with her family to a small town in New Hampshire, she was happy to spend her life among the towering pines and ferns. Back then, she didn’t have the opportunity to capture everything she saw on camera, so she used watercolours. And it started! Bugs, flowers, mushrooms, owls, foxes, leaves.
When Madison got to college, however, she dedicated time to learning the narrative style of illustration. This helped her to not only depict nature, but also to convey to a piece of paper that it was as if she was in the woods.
Since then, she has been using her talent for drawing as a teaching tool as well as a way to tell the stories of the forest unseen to the public.
The artist is also a practicing herbalist who creates botanical illustrations. She also focuses on topics such as edible flowers, mushroom picking, and herbal tea recipes.
I hope you liked these illustrations because i so love the richness of Madison Safer’s images, that cosy style, whimsy and kindness. I love the strong sense of home and security they evoke.
