Enchantment and magic in the surrounding world are not something separate, not an entity in themselves that you turn to only when needed. On the contrary, it is the ability to perceive the world around you as a whole and broadly, rather than singling out a certain magical part from the surrounding reality, separating it from the non-magical.
The vision of the world, the visible and invisible, the here and beyond, the worldly and magical, are intertwined and permeated with threads of connections. Some of these connect us to the earth, to different places and spaces we have visited, to our homes. Others connect us to people and animals, to those near and far, important and unimportant.
And not infrequently it happens so that witchcraft directly turns out to be too costly. And then you pay attention to the whole network of connections, see what happens to the threads, and then….
You brush the dust off a distant shelf, touch the drops of dew, and deeply inhale the scent of the forest. You wish health to a black dog and call its soul not to run too far over the rainbow bridge. You comb your hair long and carefully, untangling small knots and think about buying a new comb. You feed the pigeons, write to your mom, pet the neighbor’s cat, waiting for it to purr. You prepare your husband’s favorite dish, order coffee at a new café and catch a spark of joy in the barista’s eyes when you taste it. And then the stalled task moves from a dead point, in the direction you need.
This method, of course, requires a lot of strength and attention and immersion in the surrounding world. Essentially, you govern your actions with the fabric of your life, and it responds to you in kind. But yes, it’s not as spectacular as performing a grand powerful ritual (and don’t forget to snap a pic for Instagram).
