Here are a few summer photos of me so you don’t forget what I look like. Today, I’ve been pondering the idea that not everyone is a genius. The other day, while browsing through summer looks for girls on Pinterest, I started thinking about how different all the girls were. Yet, despite their completely different styles, they were all simply charming.
This made me wonder how boring the world would be if we all liked the same things, had identical appearances, similar character traits, and the same skills. I truly believe that what makes people interesting is that we all have different abilities.
During my school years, I wasn’t particularly interested in many subjects. In fact, I had serious trouble with physics and chemistry. But I was desperately in love with reading, even though I didn’t like literature class. I enjoyed reading all kinds of books, except for those on the school curriculum. Because of this, I now know almost nothing about Russian classics.
People can often be harsh when you don’t understand topics as well as they do. Teachers may write you off, believing that your talent isn’t worthy of recognition. If you don’t calculate like a walking calculator in math class, at best, you’ll be ignored, and at worst, considered foolish.
This often hurts one’s self-esteem, but I think it can help develop creativity, as creativity goes hand in hand with emotions. The more emotions you have, the more creative you become. Writers don’t just write heart-wrenching texts, and artists don’t create profoundly resonant paintings for no reason—they draw on their feelings.
I believe that creativity and art are just as important in life as the exact sciences. How would we live without films to distract us from work routines, music to help us relax, or the ability to lose ourselves in books and art galleries?
I really wish society were kinder to people who aren’t geniuses. It’s truly sad when people think they’re superior to you simply because they know a little more about one particular topic.
