When you look at other people’s pictures on Instagram, just remind yourself more often that your real life is the most amazing thing you have. Your laughter, your loved ones and friends, your home. Social media photos make you believe that what you have is not enough. As if you are not too good, your life is not rich and interesting enough, you are not as beautiful as you could be. But in fact, it’s all deception. Life on Instagram is utopia, and your real life – it’s real, and you are beautiful. You have enough. You just need to shift your gaze from Instagram to your real life and stop comparing.
I understand that these thoughts are not news to you. But sometimes it’s important to remind yourself once again that your real life is much more beautiful than anything displayed on Instagram.
I don’t remember loving myself as a child, even in my teenage years I didn’t consider myself beautiful and didn’t appreciate my appearance. It happened later, when the first cameras appeared on cell phones. That’s when I started taking my first selfies.
Sometimes I think how lucky modern children and teenagers are to have the opportunity to create the most amazing content at the age of 13. Unlike me at their age, they have modern technology and plenty of time.
But at the same time, I’m so grateful for the more than 15 years I spent carefree about myself and my life. Unfortunately, the younger generation won’t have these 15 years without social media. I feel it as both a blessing and a curse. I hate scrolling through the Instagram feed and comparing myself, but I love creating content, and the anxiety I feel related to comparison is sometimes unbearable.
But there are things that truly make me happy. I try to spend more time here, on my blog. Despite the smaller reach here, I’m having a more enjoyable time. I have no one to compare myself to here, and I can just flow in my creativity at my own pace. My blog grounds me and gives me a sense of stability. It’s nice to realize that there will always be factors that can calm and relax you.
I also appreciate the thought that I take photos that are as close to life as possible. I just try to document my life as it is. Without Photoshop and anything that’s not natural to me.
Other people’s retouched photos can be very interesting and inspire the thought that I should shoot and edit in the same way. But in the end, I understand that it’s better to stay true to myself and go my own way.
