The famous phrase “Painting is passionate silence” took on new meaning for me when I came across the wonderful works of an English artist, Vernon de Beauvoir Ward. Here, I want to share my favorite paintings by this artist and tell a little about the man himself.
Painting is an endless abyss, like a flight into the unknown with the magical wings of swans created by Vernon Ward. Each painting captivates, makes you think about something personal, and fills the soul with beauty, harmony, and tranquility.
The artist from Hampstead, one of London’s most affluent areas, became famous for his works depicting flowers, birds, and Edwardian melodies. He painted in an animalistic style, predominantly focusing on birds, particularly swans, which brought him fame.
Vernon dedicated his creative career to memories of days spent with his family in Cornwall. On canvas, using oil paints, he depicted snippets of his childhood, including portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. People were drawn to the way he presented his paintings in natural light. They loved the delicate shades, his ability to convey atmosphere, and his attention to detail, considering the artist was blind in one eye and had a nervous breakdown.
Today, the paintings of Vernon de Beauvoir Ward can be seen in galleries, and they are often printed on postcards and puzzles. I was particularly drawn to them because I had the feeling that I had seen them somewhere before, as if in my childhood. Perhaps my childhood books or postcards were illustrated with his works. It’s amazing to realize that I’m writing about this artist now, knowing that he once painted for me.
